JANUARY T-SHIRT

The scene in this image is from the Hakone Ropeway that takes you over the mountains and down to Lake Ashi. From here I saw Mount Fuji for the first time; it appeared as the sun set beside it while we were ascending on the gondola. I had the most peaceful few days staying in the small mountain area of Hakone, which inspired this print.

a short project summary: in 2024 I’m creating one tee design a month, a single print run, giving me chance to experiment with lettering and illustration for clothing. 5% of profits will go to 12 different charities over the year. Each month, I’ll be celebrating a (visually) creative artist from the UK alongside the launch. 

This month’s artist is Rory Lewis.

Rory is a good friend I’ve known for several years now, he’s from West Leeds in Yorkshire and is currently a practicing handpoke tattoo artist, with a residency at Buzz Club Tattoo.

With a passion for illustration and drawing, Rory’s artistic journey has developed organically over time and his canvas has switched from paper to skin. In 2019, he first tried his hand at stick-and-poke tattooing, using himself and our friends as willing sketchbooks.

His work manifests symbolism and mysticism, in a playful take on the traditional handpoke style. He’s hugely inspired by folk art from around the world, drawing inspiration from nature, symbolism and spiritual practices. His work always follows him on his travels across the globe; from Peru, Brazil,  Portugal and (soon to be!) India. On his shop you can find various merchandise including prints, stickers & T-shirts - or go get poked with some ink at @buzzclubtattoo in Leeds!

5% of profits from sales of this T-shirt go to Cancer Research UK.
