JUNE T-SHIRT
This design spun out from one of my favourite films Koyaanisqatsi, I first watched it when I was about 12 and it stuck with me, I even based my college final project on it, the state of chaos and sonder on our crazy little planet.
I wanted to stray from the idea of turmoil and imbalance so instead opted for the concept of Suyanisqatsi, or ‘Life in Balance’ - a rough translation from the original Hopi word. Life is everything in moderation, balance is the key and it can be a difficult thing to achieve.
a short project summary: in 2024 I’m creating one tee design a month, a single print run, giving me chance to experiment with lettering and illustration for clothing. 5% of profits will go to 12 different charities over the year. Each month, I’ll be celebrating a (visually) creative artist from the UK alongside the launch.
This month’s artist is Em Jackson!
Em is a tattoo artist and printmaker based in Stockton-on-Tees in the UK. Her work explores cute, whimsical characters which are either hand-carved in to lino for print or forever emblazoned on skin from her current tattoo studio Steel River Tattoo.
Em studied Illustration at Leeds College of Art, which led to her finding a passion for printmaking. After exploring various other creative endeavours, she started a tattoo apprenticeship and has now been tattooing for 2 years alongside running her own print studio from home and selling her original prints worldwide.
5% of profits from sales of this T-shirt go to The Trussell Trust.
Wash similar colours together, no ironing on print, wash and iron inside out.
Wash at 30. Weight: 240GSM.
Please check the size guide if you’re unsure. The tees are an oversized fit. May vary from US sizes.
