Miyajima is a place on the small island of Itsukushima, off the coast of Japan near to Hiroshima. It’s the most beautiful, peaceful, spiritual place, where the tide recedes to reveal the legs of the Torii gate so you can walk underneath it. When I was there, the tide rose so at sunset the gate stood tranquilly amongst the sea (as depicted in this design). To this day one of my favourite places. Can’t wait to return.

a short project summary: in 2024 I’m creating one tee design a month, a single print run, giving me chance to experiment with lettering and illustration for clothing. 5% of profits will go to 12 different charities over the year. Each month, I’ll be celebrating a (visually) creative artist from the UK alongside the launch. 

This month’s artist is Joe Harrison. Joe is a signwriter from Sheffield now based in North London, and runs his business under the name Two One Six Signs (@216signs) ✨ Studying Graphic Design reinforced his love for letterforms so he ventured in to the world of sign painting. Joe’s graffiti background is a huge contributing factor to his current practice and he enjoys creating letters using a wide range of mediums.

Joe currently works in and around London, painting shop fascias, chalkboards, signs, gilded designs and murals for an array of clients. Check out his work on @216signs ✨
